Philosophy of teaching and learning

As a teacher, I aim to create a classroom culture of trust and respect; develop positive relationships with my students, teaching colleagues and members of the school community; and craft personalised learning experiences that help children reach their individual potential.

I find that there is nothing more rewarding, exciting and challenging than teaching and love working with children. I aim to instil a lifelong love of learning in each child by personalising learning experiences. I use differentiated instruction to address my students’ individual needs, backgrounds, interests and learning styles to ensure that they achieve personal, social and academic excellence. I take a student-centred approach to my planning, teaching and learning by knowing and supporting my students, catering for student diversity and collaborating with my colleagues, students and their parents.

I believe that developing respectful relationships with children, understanding their various backgrounds, supporting their interests and abilities and catering for their individual learning styles is essential for effective teaching and learning. I provide a safe and supportive learning environment by by taking a genuine interest in each child’s interests, feelings and lives outside school and using Restorative Practices to resolve conflict and encourage responsibility. I seek to understand my students as learners and as individuals in order to scaffold their learning and development. I aim to do this by working with children to identify individual strengths and challenges, modelling and encouraging positive interpersonal skills and clearly communicating my beliefs and high expectations.

I cater for student diversity and support each child to achieve their personal best by considering children's individual learning styles and differentiating the content, process and product in each learning experience. I strongly believe in using assessment data to create flexible groupings that target students’ individual needs; and, creating open-ended, inquiry-based learning experiences to challenge my students at an appropriate level in light of their readiness, interests, and learning styles.

I am passionate about working with my teaching colleagues, parents and members of the school community to continually develop skills; share ideas; and improve teaching and learning outcomes to best support students. I feel that strengthening relationships with my students, their families and communities promotes high quality teaching and allows me to really be part of children's learning journeys. I am committed to ongoing reflection and professional development and hope to continue developing effective teaching practices that nurture students and inspire them to take action and transform their future.

These values are at the heart of my philosophy of teaching and learning. As an individual, teacher and professional, these values shape my professional relationships, inform my pedagogy and  guide my practice.

I am kind, fair, compassionate and committed.

I am a teacher that you can trust will always do her best to support my students.

I worked with students at Nadi Centre for Special Education to create a classroom culture of trust and respect.

I am inclusive, supportive, respectful of cultural and learner diversity and committed to helping students become the best people and the best learners that they can possibly be.
